Micro Library #17

A new addition to Pasadena..

A new addition to Pasadena.

While we were out running errands over the weekend, we stumbled across this micro library.  Placed right next to the sidewalk, it is a welcome sight for pedestrians as well as animals of the barking variety.  This library has dog treats tucked inside waiting to be shared.  What a novel idea!

Micro Library #15

An adorable cottage library.

An adorable cottage library.

The newest addition to the micro library network in South Pasadena.  My husband and mother alerted me to this one.  On an idyllic, treelined street set amongst mature landscaping, this micro library is a winner in the curb appeal department.  Time to check out some books!

Micro Library #13

Room for lots of books.

Room for lots and lots of books.

With school starting this week, I felt it was appropriate to share my latest find.  This library was erected shortly before school was let out in June.  Located in front of the school, this library will get lots of use and will soon be filled to the brim with books. A great location and maybe the other two elementary schools in town will do the same and construct their own little library.

“Like a food desert—an area where fresh, nutritious foods are difficult to find or afford—a book desert is a place where books are difficult to access. Our boxes full of free books are portals to the joys of reading.”  – Kris Huson, Director of Marketing and Communications at Little Free Library

The newest addition to the South Pasadena collection.

The newest addition to the South Pasadena collection.

Lo and behold.  I didn’t have to search for this one.  This library is located on my route for my morning walk.  This property is in the midst of a front yard renovation,  but the library is open and ready for business.  Located about a block from our local park, it was getting some use on the 4th of July as people passed by after the parade.

By the way, this library is registered with Little Free Library.org.  Check it out and maybe it will inspire you to seek out the micro libraries in your community.

Charming and rustic!

Charming and rustic!

Several co-workers told me about this micro library a few blocks from work.  Placed amongst a sustainable landscape, this library beckons you to inspect it.  With no door and a penny roof, it has lots of character, which adds to its charm.  Recently, I spoke about the trend of micro libraries with some new acquaintances, who had never heard of them.  They all loved the idea and I hope it inspires them to seek them out.  Not sure where I will find the next one, but I will most definitely share it with you.

Rustic indeed

Rustic indeed

Located in Costa Mesa, this micro library is showcasing the rustic aesthetic.  If you notice, the structure of the library is built with a wooden crate.  Very simple construction yet effective.  It definitely belongs in this yard to keep company with the eclectic collection of lawn ornaments and unusual plants.

Perfect spot!

Perfect spot!

We’ve being visiting Orange County every weekend since the beginning of the year so I decided to see what was close to our route.  This library is located in Costa Mesa in front of a townhouse complex and across the street from a school.  A perfect location that I hope gets lots of use.
