Crafty Today: Anniversary Pop Up Box Card

Happy Anniversary!

Happy Anniversary!

This first pop up box card I created was this one to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary.  Still can’t believe it!  I followed the same process outlined in this post. Unfortunately, this line from Jillibean Soup isn’t available anymore.  Too bad as it is adorable and lends itself well for Valentine Day cards also.  My husband was definitely wowed by this card.  This year we will be celebrating 22 years of marriage and no clue what I am going to create.  I better get on it.

Crafty Today: Birthday Pop Up Box Card

Make a wish!

Make a wish!

These pop up box cards are all over Pinterest and I have been obsessed with them for about two years.  I will share my cheater way of creating these fabulous cards without using rubber stamps.  You need the following tools and supplies to create this card:

  • Jillibean Soup paper
  • Jillibean Pea Pod Parts
  • cardstock
  • scoring board
  • adhesive
  • foam dots and tape

Follow this tutorial from Splitcoaststampers to create the box.  Add assorted pea pod parts to the flaps, straps and inside front of card using the foam tape and dots.  Add embellishment and sentiment to the back of the card.

You want to add the pod parts to the straps in ascending order so it doesn’t block the inside front of the card.  Also, having varying thicknesses of foam tape and dots gives you the flexibility to stack the pod parts and adds emphasis.  I used my favorite Cricut cartridge, Tiny Treasures, to create the 80 on the inside front of the card.  You also can make an envelope for this card using the Envelope Punch Board and choosing size 6×7.  This card has enormous wow factor so you should make it for that special person in your life that will truly appreciate it.  I created this card for my mother-in-law and she had it on view for weeks.  I hope you try it!

Crafty Today: Love Garland

Love is in the air!

Love is in the air!

I love hearts!  I have been wanting to make another garland to hang in my dining room so now was the time.  You need the following tools and supplies to create this garland:

To create the flags, cut out the kraft flags at 5″ and the heart paper flags at 4.5″ from the Tiny Treasures cartridge.  Cut out the LOVE letters at 3.5″, the pale pink shadow letters at 3.5″ and the hearts at 3″ from the Folk Art cartridge.  Adhere it all together and add the 14th and Be My Valentine onto the hearts with foam tape.  Hole punch the upper corners of each flag and string the ribbon through the flags to create a finished garland.

Many years ago in a quilt class, the instructor told us to let the patterned fabric do the work.  Let it happen and don’t fuss over it.  I remembered this when I was designing this garland.  The patterned paper in the background of the flags adds the depth it needs to make it more interesting, not so flat and plain.  But the trick is, not to overwork it.  I think I achieved the desired effect.  It is perfect for my dining room and adds that needed decoration for the upcoming celebration of Valentine’s Day.

I also added this decoration to my living room, Ornament-filled cloche, and Punched Hearts Garlands to my parlor.  Have you decorated for Valentine’s Day yet?
