Crafty Today: Vintage Curly Paper Wreath

Vintage curly paper wreath

I made this wreath for my mother’s birthday last year.  Since my parents live in a 1908 Craftsman Bungalow, I choose muted, vintage looking papers that were more in keeping with the aesthetic of the house.  I thought it would grace the front door, but my mother loved it so much that she hung it in the dining room so she could see it every day.  Thanks Mom!

Above is a detail of the wreath so you can see the mixture of colors and patterns.  The original tutorial can be found here.  I hope it inspires you to make one as they are a blast to create.  Each and every one is unique.  Happy crafting!

Crafty Today: Spring Curly Paper Wreath

Time for spring!

Springtime!

I really enjoyed making the Valentine Curly Paper Wreath so I made one for the spring.  It is a perfect complement to my spring door mat.  I followed the same steps as noted in this tutorial, but made the following changes:

  • Used 7 sheets of patterned paper instead of 6
  • Made all of the curls while watching tv (in my case, watching the Super Bowl)
  • Used a fingertip thimble by Dritz which gave me the control to accurately push the pins into the foam without damaging the other paper curls (it will save your fingertip from being too sore)

    Love those curls!

This wreath would make a great gift as my mother has already put in a request for one.  I urge you to try it and you won’t be disappointed.

Crafty Today: Valentine Curly Paper Wreath

Love it!

Love it!

I love Valentine’s Day because of the imagery, colors and what it represents, but not the commercialization of it.  Since the inception of this blog, I have created a few projects to decorate my home: punched heart garlands, LOVE garland and ornament-filled cloche.  I finally have a decoration to adorn my front porch and it is this curly paper wreath.  I love this project!  You need the following tools and supplies to create it:

  • 6-7 sheets of patterned paper
  • foam wreath
  • small stick pins
  • bone folder

Cut the paper into 1/2″ strips.  Curl all of the strips using the bone folder like curling ribbon with a pair of scissors. Attach the curly strips to the wreath with pins.

I pinned this tutorial video to my Pinterest board and it really is that simple.  A great way to use your favorite paper that you want to see every day instead of buried in a scrapbook.  It is a project that anyone can do and the supplies are readily available.  I am already planning more wreaths for the future.  Stay tuned!
