Edgar the Cat

A sweet, friendly cat!

A sweet, friendly cat!

Edgar is a wanderer.  He has been visiting us intermittingly since the fall of last year.  A few weeks ago he camped out on our porch for a week.  When I was out for my late afternoon walk, I spotted Lost Cat signs for Edgar.  I promptly contacted his owners and they were thrilled to hear he was alive and well.  He was taken home and loved by his family.  We learned that he only lives a few blocks away, but obviously loves the tranquility of our quaint dead-end street.  He has returned a few times to stop for a snack and lay in the sun spot on our porch.  This perch allows him to watch the comings and goings on our street.  He definitely loves adventure and we are so glad that he has chosen us to visit with.

Cat in the Bag

Isn't she the cutest?

Isn’t she the cutest?

These type of photo opportunity doesn’t come along very often.  This bag was out on the dresser waiting to be put away.  The next moment, Wren was in the bag.  It lasted all about 5 minutes, but I got the shot.  How furry can she be?  Very.

In Memoriam

F-stop

Our beloved f/stop

Our beloved f/stop passed away Thanksgiving weekend.  She was 16 1/2 years old and was sweet until the end.  My husband fondly referred to her as the most randomly colored calico cat.  At 5.5 lbs, she ruled the roost and we all obeyed her including Merckx and Wren.  Since moving to our current home, she took residence on the down-filled sofa watching the comings and goings of the household.  It was a familiar sight and all that passed through enjoyed seeing her curled on the sofa.

The above photo is one of our favorites of her that was taken while we cleaned up after my husband’s 50th birthday party.  Classic f/stop and it always brings us a smile.  Rest in peace and we miss your furry presence.

Happiness

Back porch cat

Take a lazy summer afternoon, a warm back porch and an elevated basket and what do you get?  A happy, purring black cat named Merckx.  Hope you are enjoying the summer!

Simple Pleasures Part II

F-stop enjoying a sun spot!

F-stop enjoying a sun spot!

We rarely leave town on a holiday weekend.  We find it too stressful with the horrendous traffic the main reason why we don’t.  Instead, we stay home and enjoy a relaxing weekend.  This past weekend we had dinner with some dear friends, who introduced us to a new restaurant.  Yum!  Went to our favorite Mexican restaurant for takeout and enjoyed dinner while listening to our team fight it out at the Rose Bowl.  Go Bruins!  We cooked, watched some of our favorite programs, and stayed cool at home.  The weekend slowly unfolded and we relished every minute.  Nice and easy with no definite plans.  Unplanned weekends are the best for recharging yourself and reconnecting with those you love.  Like F-stop above, enjoy the opportunities when they present themselves.

Simple Pleasures

Wren the window cat

Wren the window cat

Summer is rapidly coming to an end.  Wren, our youngest cat, knows how to enjoy life’s simple pleasures.  She lounges in this window all summer long listening to the chirping birds, while being warmed by the sun.  She is truly enjoying herself by being in the moment.  Pure bliss.  There is something to be learned here.  Be present and enjoy the lazy days of summer!

We know that in September, we will wander through the warm winds of summer’s wreckage.  We will welcome summer’s ghost.  -Henry Rollins

Photography Monday: Photo Calendars

Every year for Christmas, I give scratch made calendars to my family.  I collect our favorite photos from the year and expertly craft beautiful calendars.  Since my husband and I are behind the camera, the calendars are filled with photos from our travels and/or home life.  Here are six of the photos that will be featured in the 2013 calendar:
